Wayne Pellerin didn’t just stumble into a career in MEP engineering–he followed the wires and circuits to get there. He grew up on a farm, complete with goats, pigs, chickens and even an emu, but it was his grandfather’s work as an electrician that captured his interest. “He introduced me to all things electric,” Pellerin says. “I was enthralled.”

Enthralled enough, it turns out, that Wayne decided to become an electrical engineer when he was still in high school. It was the problem-solving aspect, he says, that drew him in, along with an early fascination with electricity.

He followed that fascination to Texas A&M University where he studied microelectronics and telecommunications, but at the end of his senior year, an opportunity at a small MEP firm drew him back into the more hands-on world of wires and circuits. “I decided to take a chance and have enjoyed electrical systems design ever since,” Wayne says.

Eventually joining ME Engineers gave Wayne the opportunity to work on the best projects with the best teams. “I’m able to learn from many experienced engineers while still feeling like I’m contributing to the success of the firm,” he says. That success is manifested in buildings that stand as landmarks in their communities. Among his favorites is 609 Main at Texas, a 48-story skyscraper in Houston. “It was my first very large high rise building,” he says. “It was a challenging project and I was able to learn a lot from the project’s many talented team members.”

When he’s not tracing circuits and chasing challenges, Wayne enjoys travel with his family and scuba diving, and he and his wife also run together, competing in 5Ks, 10Ks and half marathons, though he only has one marathon medal in his collection so far. He also likes to work on projects at home, some of them, of course, involving electricity.
