Joy Yamada is a principal and director of ME’s architectural lighting design studio, illume. She provides the organizational strength within the firm to assure work is on schedule and within the client’s program objectives working to support all of our offices.
Joy studied architectural engineering with an emphasis in lighting. Her skills and experience, both technical and artistic, have led many award winning projects ranging from Ralph L. Carr Judicial Complex, 609 Main at Texas, Petco Park for the San Diego Padres, to Ellie Caulkins Opera House. She is involved with all aspects of the design and construction process.
Captured by illumination, Joy is fascinated with the power of light and shadow to articulate architectural emotion. “Lighting design, whether inherently functional or purely aesthetic, enables us to collaborate with exceptionally talented architects from around the world to bring a project to life.”
