Principal
Korey Kirschenmann traded his cube for a stadium, several stadiums, in fact. The ME engineer, who remembers tagging along with his engineer father keeping South Dakota’s rural electrical cooperatives operating, got his first job out of college at a Boston area software company “troubleshooting other people’s problems” and discovered, quickly, that he “didn’t like the cube.”
ME gave him a much bigger playground, and much bigger challenges.
Every one of those challenges, he says, is unique. There are no cookie-cutter projects at ME. Each new contract comes with different and often unexpected challenges and many stand out as marquee projects that define state-of-the-art venue design.
Korey acknowledges that the work is hard but when he sees people enjoying the experiences that ME designed and delivered, it makes it that much more exciting to tackle the next project and all the challenges that he knows will come with it.
At Dodger Stadium, Korey saw all the strengths of the ME team come together in orchestrating a complex reinstallation of electrical systems and an update to stadium amenities that had to be accomplished while the stadium was still in full operation. “It was an amazing team effort from ownership to design team to contractors,” he says. “Everyone took care of each other and worked together.”
That model of cooperation is clear in the ME team culture. One of his favorite parts of the job is watching new engineers learn from all the projects and challenges that came before and then “step up and take care of issues and projects, with me being in the shadows.”
Escaping the cube has tasked Korey to keep up with the latest technology and follow the evolution of stadium design, but when he needs to escape the office, he can usually be found playing golf or playing with his kids. Though you might also find him touring a microbrewery.
