UCLA Celebrates Opening of Graduate Arts Studios
1 October 2019
The new studio is an adaptation of a former wallpaper factory to graduate art studios with artists in residence. The project presented significant challenges with multiple uses of commercial, work shops and residential. These included power, heat load, ventilation and re-use of building equipment from the main campus. The project involved removing obsolete structures, integrating an addition in a way which engages the city, and creating a new expanded roof as a solar umbrella. The LaFargeHolcim Foundation recognized it with an acknowledgement prize for visionary concepts in sustainable construction.
