Sphere
Las Vegas, NV
Named by Time as one of the “Best Inventions of 2023”
Sphere is a new, 17,600-seat fully immersive entertainment medium in Las Vegas. At 366 feet tall and 516 feet wide at its base, it is the largest spherical structure in the world. The exterior – the Exosphere – is covered with 580,000 SF of fully programmable LED lights and serves as a digital showcase. Inside the seating bowl is the world’s highest resolution LED display, consisting of 160,000 SF of immersive surface.
The venue’s groundbreaking technology and immersive effects also include 10,000 seats that provide haptic vibrations, as well as 4D effects such as wind, heat, cold and scents, which called for custom design solutions, such as the specialty compressed air and steam systems.
In addition to MEPT and Building Performance services, ME Engineers also served as the Owner’s Technical Representative, helping ensure that the high-tech components providing low voltage, audio-visual, high-speed data, internet access, and system-wide interoperability were fully coordinated between all members of the project team.
Sphere required an extraordinary level of collaboration among the project’s many stakeholders to ensure that the grand design vision became what it is today: the most awe-inspiring venue on Earth.
