Central Park Police Station

New York, NY, United States

Conversion of a landmarked building into a modern police facility in New York City’s Central Park

The historic renovation converted a single story building with an attic into two stories of occupied space. The 28,000 SF building now houses a police facility located on 86th Street transverse in Central Park. Mechanical and electrical systems were tightly integrated into the structure and installed within the eaves of the attic to allow the existing structure to define the lowest points in the finished construction. A creative and thoughtful approach to the systems design and implementation produced a fully redundant air conditioned building with no visible impact on the building exterior. Specialty systems include emergency power generation, fueling systems and communication systems.
