First large-scale building to open at the new Health Sciences Center Campus

At a project cost of $216 million and totaling 650,000 SF, Research 1 consists of two buildings: one 9 stories and the other 12 stories high, which are connected by a tri-level bridge. A 52,000 SF vivarium facility, bio-medical research laboratories, support facilities, associated office spaces, educational areas, and auditorium spaces occupy the facility.

A nuclear magnetic resonator with a 21-tesla magnet was also installed. It captures and models, in 3-D, molecules and their interactions within cells. Medical genetics, neurology, cancer, immunology, brain disorders, and diabetes are some of the topics researched.
